In a medium pot, with the heat off, place the water, sugar, cornstarch and cinnamon, stir.
Add the cherries and turn the heat on.
Cook until it begins to thicken, stirring frequently.
Place the fruit in a baking dish that has a good depth to be able to put the topping on top and prevent the fruit from spilling over when boiling in the oven. Set aside.
In a bowl, place the ground oats, flour, sugar and salt.
Mix and add the oil and butter and mix until you get a consistency like wet sand.
Add the milk and form a light dough.
Place this dough by tablespoons on top of the fruit covering all or most of the surface.
Place in the oven to cook for 30-35 minutes until the topping is dry, golden and crispy.
